Anti Doping Reminder

Below is a notice from the ARU which the VRU and Melbourne Rugby Club endorses.

WARNING: PURCHASING OF SUBSTANCES AND SUPPLEMENTS VIA THE INTERNET

In recent months, there have been some cases in which amateur rugby players have purchased prohibited substances via the internet from overseas. The players were subsequently found to have committed anti-doping rule violations and have been suspended for two years.

The Australian Rugby Union strongly advises all rugby participants (players/support staff) that they should not purchase any substances or supplements over the internet unless the product has been evaluated and recommended by a sports physician or dietician with knowledge of ARU’s Anti-Doping Code.

This is a timely reminder to ALL athletes in relation to the use of supplements, and reinforces the risks that athletes take with ANY supplement.

More information is available on Anti-Doping is available at www.rugby.com.au/policies and please see attached document. Please ensure that this warning is brought to the attention of all relevant stakeholders within your jurisdiction.
